Butuuro SACCO’s long serving general manager retires with honours after 17 years of service

Butuuro SACCO’s founding Manager, Mr. Peter Tumuhimbise has retired from service, having served at one of Uganda’s biggest SACCO for seventeen years.

Mr. Tumuhimbise, who started working at Butuuro in 2007 after his college education revealed to his bosses in October 2024 that he intended to retire, a request that was granted in a letter signed by the then Board Chairperson, Mr, Benson Barigye.

The Board Chairperson expressed ‘sincere gratitude’ for the ‘exceptional service’, leadership, and dedication rendered by Tumuhimbise, saying that they(qualities) have been instrumental in shaping the SACCO’s growth and success.

It should be noted that Tumuhimbise’s 17year-long spell saw the SACCO expand operational branches to 05, membership growth reach 19000, loan portfolio grow to 17 billion Uganda shillings, share capital grow to 04 billion, savings portfolio grow to 5.5billion, staff grow to 59, total assets reach 22billion, net profit rise to 1.7billion, among others like putting in place the head office structure worth 310 million, retained earnings of 2.8billion, etc.

Mr. Tumuhimbise, whose unwavering service and acumen is celebrated across Butuuro’s five branches in SACCO area of operation, was on Saturday 29th March 2025, during the SACCO’s 17th Annual General Meeting honoured and rewarded with gifts, including a cow and a ‘big enevelope of cash prize’ at a colourful ceremony held in Nyakabirizi, Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality. The ceremony was witnessed by the board, delegates, government officials, key stakeholders and partners, and staff members of Butuuro SACCO.

In his speech, Tumuhimbise in turn, appreciated Butuuro SACCO membership for the support during his 17-year-old tenure.

During Tumuhimbise’s tenure, several SACCO policies and general infrastructure tools were streamlined to facilitate the financial institution move well in clearly defined flow. He leaves behind an indelible mark and is replaced by Mrs. Margaret Sande in Acting capacity as the SACCO prepares to recruit his rightful replacement. Mrs. Sande has been serving the SACCO as Administration and Operations Manager.

The outgoing general manager says being at the helm of the SACCO has exposed him to a myriad of opportunities, which he does believe will be so helpful in his next undertakings.
